Not only are they reassurign that the bots aren't smart enough to pinpoint their marketing to me (no, I'm not interested in hosting a Diva-Girl Purse Party (good improv group name? (no.))), but every once in a while they come up with a doozy. Case in point:

We all know the story of how icarus flew too high and his wings melted. I've always taken it, and assumed the popular interpretation was teh same, to mean that we should never try to fly too hich figuratively, that we must always crumble under the ceilign of our limitations.

But then i realized. Icarus flew! He flew! And so did Daedalus, with no ill effects to the father. They broke free from gravity itself and trode in the realm of gods. As limitations go, toching the sun is not terribly constricting.

Now I see it as a call to excellance and common sense. Strive! Surpass! You are an amazign creature, you naked ape. you will walk through the thresholds of the divine, what now contains you will disappear with insperation and perserverance. But don't be stupid. Know that as your mind conquers your body will still have its frailties.

You will transcend, but fire still burns.

I drove to work today.

I have been ttoally lax about LJ lately, and there are a couple of fun things I should recount.

It was nice to drive again, although i really never missed it per se; I like beign a passanger. i think that when i am rich i will be driven around a lot.

Also, since i am so behind in lj, i don't know what's been going on with you, so why not give me a call? I miss you, it's really been too long since we've talked.

So, I'm not gonna get into the details again, suffice it to say that it does not rreflect my driving, just my lack of organization that my liscence has been suspended for a month.

So yeah.

I can get to work ok, or so it's lookin', so that's good. And other than that i guess I'll just be a heapa bored most days.

Okies...

I am back at work. I think i might take a long weekend after all of this.

Whipsuit show on friday was really good. not great, but lots of fun and a couple of great scenes. After hanging out with peeps post-show I hit the southern road, slept a bit in DE, and then woke up the wonderful Sabine42 to let me in, We both slep for a bit more and then a full day of hanging out and sewing!

Made a skirt, and played with a couple of ponchos (french seamed plastic (hee!)), so not all that useful, but I had a lot of fun :D. Got to watch a bunch of Pushign Daisies, and got introduced to Wonderfalls. Yay!

I am incredibly stupid.

Yeah, so...

Last night, I leave here at 8, barely having started a 'very important' job to coach improv (my kids have a show tonight :) ), and then i come back. Here. A little after midnight. To finish. Why? Good question. I said I would, and aat this point I'm not sure why I did that. But I did. And so I stayed until 6 but i got the proffs done. Still haven't gotten them back, which is worrying.

And I've been doign the production math in my head. I may have to do this again. It depends on when we get them back, but there is a good chance that I will not be able to leave.

And then a show tomorow night. And then a jam-packed weekend i was really looking forward to.

Kinda the most irritating thing is that I don't know yet how everythign is gonna work out.

heh. When i got home, my nephew was there, so I got to get assaulted by him a bit before taking my 3ish hour nap. And let me tell you, he was not happy that i chose sleep over playing with him. Which is one of those things that is both cool and sucky.

Y'know, like life....

As all of you know, I am mildy diabetic; which is fortuate because i have so far only treated it mildly. Recently a new symptom has manifested; socks hurt.

That is to say more accuarately, my leg have been been swelling as teh day goes on, and as they do teh compression of my sock tops starts to hurt. Plus when i take off my socks there is this serious impression of my sock's elastic banding on my calf, and that is just plain scary to see on your leg. most unsettling.

So if you don't know why they sell diabetic socks (I sure hadn't thought too hard about it), now you do. The elastic is really loose, and thus non-hurty. Unfotuanatly, this means that the socks are flimsy as all get out. now I like a nice thick, cusiony sock; i wear work socks. This a big change, and frankly i dislike it.

but then, this weekend past, I came accross my salcation (what? diet and excersize? Child, I ate Ice cream with BACON in it on saturday (to answer your question: delicious)). Crew top socks! That's right, kids right now, i am wearing tough-tough work socks with dainty crew tops.

Rock on, socks. Rock. On.

You know that feeling you get when you meet someone, and you instantly know that you can become very good freinds with them? I'm sure you do; i've felt it when i met a number of you, and i hope I have inspired it a few times as well. The most eloquant phrase i have ever heard to describe this phenomenom was in This American Life, when a man described meeting his future wife for the first time knowing that they were of teh same tribe.

Jason Toogood was definitely of my tribe. I won't get a chance to know him better, because he passed on monday night at the age of 38. Those that knew him even a little, know just what the world is missing out on. If there's a God of funny, snarky bastards who are awesome to drink with, then Jay's at his right hand now.

I wish i knew you better, man. But I still miss you.

Good weekend.

Fri-Sat: sleep, more sleep, tv (I love this season of Project Runway SOOOO much, I really just want to hang out with them all. *sigh* I miss sewing with a big group. Hey, Sabine42 (if you;re readign this) need any help with any thing, I can bring my own machine :D ), and i know i shouldn't be admiting this so publicly, but i am finally reading all of America the book (fie dollahs @ Borders, yay!). Oh and I finnishe Madman volume 2: NY'sDay i was at Showcase Comics (awesome shop in philly) where I learned that Madman is available in volumes now, i usually can't afford to pay for comics, but this is a very imprtant exception (along with Astro City (SOOOO GOOD!!!)). I love Mike Allred's work, his art, his writing it's all so unabashedly fun; hell, I'm not all that comfortabjle with Mormanism, but I will prolly end up reading The Golden Plates, just because he did it.

Sunday I picked up some hours at the branch, and then headed out to the incubator (ok, I had a couple of extra hours there that I bummer ariound hangin out in). Rick had a 'company' holiday party, so I ran it!

And it went really well. Better than the last time I did it. I had a really good time doing it.

Yay!

That's my slogan for the new year. 'cause it is. I have a totally good feeling about this year.

To use the word of '07: w00t!

The transition was certainly good. Four day weekend with awesome peeps. I feel as blessed as an atheist can feel (which is totally, if inatributably, blessed). My friends totally rock; and that includes that many awesome people that I did not get to see this weekend past.

Ug. It's friday. It's friday and I'm still talking about the weekend. Well, to be fair, it was awesome and long, and I have been dereft of lessiure time. Hmmmm.... Is that a word? I think it is. Well here are some fast facts from my mini-vacay:

A woman held a gun to my head and made me drink Absinthe.

I watched 3 episodes of an anime where a thug's right hand is some-how replaced with a woman that has a crush on him.

Beer places only have beer.

Light up umbrellas are awesome (I got to see one on real life AND I saw Bladerunner on NYsD (I also saw Juno this weekend)))

Nerf guns rock, whether and artibuters of social justice or virtual Zombie killers.

I meet too many hot awesome woman who are either married or in commited relationships.

Whipsuit had the best show ever on NY'sE (how the best was it? at one point and audience repeated what we had just said to her table-mates!!!)(Whipsuit does well with large crowds)

I am very blessed.

Also i fed my game addiction at a small bargin place in MD called Ollie's.

It's gonne be great in oh-eight!!!!

Show last night....

the next-to-the-last night we open for The 8 (tonight is the last). It went ok. We wrote a bunch-a game names on index cards and had audience members pick what we would play next; we had done this before with terrible results(we clearly enjoyed it much more than the audience did that time, call me a populist if you mush, but I have very little tolerance for self-indulgance on stage (although i don't mind challenging an audience...)), but this time it work much more nicely.

I've said this before, so i hope I do not come off as conceited, but while ZS had an OK show, I had a really good show. Slide Show (so glad that was picked) especially. The audience was a quieter one, less apt to volenteer (which would translate to extremely reticent) and less vocal than usual, but just about every line I spoke durring SS got a moderate to nice laugh (which felt pretty huge with the afore described crowd). I have noticed that when I play a bit looser, a bit more relaxed, and a bit more selfishly (Annoyance Theatre definition) the audience really responds to it. So anymore i am really trying to play just that way.

I hope I'm not pissign off Scene partners...

Thoughts on the Dark Night Trailer

I'm sure I'm on the tail end of seeign the full trailer for the Dark Night, so I will use no other groundwork (meta!). It looks good. There'a a sweet looking batcycle. The replaced Katie holmes with Maggie Gylenhal. The joker is gonna kill so many people.

But...

If you're gonna cast a sexy sexy actor in teh role of a sexy sexy character, why would you purposlly make him non-sexy?

Because let's face it, the Joker is sexy. Part of the unending contrasts between Messers Bat and Clown, is sexuality. Batman, the poster child for 'fear of intamacy' has gone through women by the dozens over teh years. The clown prince of crime knows how to keep a woman begging for more. If any one doubts, just check out the respective combatants in tuxes: Wayne looks, adequately hot, but as Alex Ross knows, the Joker in a tux looks like a wet nightmare.

Well.... At least it's clear that he'll kill a whole lot of people.

Yesterday, and the eve afore were just plain lovely. Lots of fun, lots of good food, and a nap or two. Not much to say about it all, really, just that it was an all around pleasant couple-a days.

This morning started a bit on the early side. My co-worker is off, and so i opened, i have been here for 2 and a half hours,and it's still and hour before my usual time. It was bracingly hectic when i got in, but it's all subsided to a nice pace, now. I might run for some more coffee, but really i owe a huge thanks to teh Scissor Sisters for being awake this morning (that is some damn good stuff to get you going).

I anticipate a slow day (hope, hope, hope) So if you see me online today, kids, why not chat with me a bit?

No reason, that's why not! Just do it!

So, I've been thinking.

I knowt that's a bad enough idea to begin with, and I know that some things aren't really worth contemplating, especially holiday songs and especially anythign written from teh perspective of a kid...

But, I've been thinking.

I've been thinkign about the song "I Saw Mommy Kissign Santa Claus".

Ok, i get that Santa is supposed to be the father in costume, but why? The child was in hiding, ostensibly thought to be asleep, and teh song records no interaction of any sort with Santa and narrator, so it seems it was not for the child's benefit. Was it just in case the child woke up? If so, then why were mom and dad so terribly indescreet with the shows of affection?

Perhaps something darker is at work here...

And no, I don't think is just some kind of Santa fetish on the part of teh mother (hmmm, or father). No, my freinds..

She is having an affair with St. Nick; Her own little Santa Baby, if you would.

Siege of Troika

Show was ok last night. Made it just in time. JUST in time.

Went to the last troika afterwards; not a bad show(although a special not should be made on one performer. One group (the winne, actually) does clown-work, and teh one member that I've done those clown workshops with has gotten spectacular (man i hope she starts teaching or workshoppign clown soon)), and it has been a while since I've been social at a show, so it was nice to see so many peeps. As is my wont, I afterwards lingered until revealed were only the antisocial set of my self, my wife*, and my freind Chris. We were all hungry, but not wishing to tarry to late into the night, so we went off to find cheaper and faster food than available at teh bar everyone else had goen to.

So a slightly longer walk than those others found us to a lovely little diveyish diner/bar on market (the shepard's pie was awesome!), and of course teh end of our fine meal found us tarrying far later than we had all agreed. But sleep is no subsitution for fine company and strange conversation.

So, knowign that we would both have long days today, as Rick drove me back to my car, of course we went out of our way and hit the late-night pretzle bakery. And it was so worth it. Any time you visit me in the city of brotherly love, remind me and we will eat prettles after last call.

*Funny littel moment from the evening: Rick paid for his ticket with a twenty, but instead of handing him his change, the taker handed me a ticket (he just assumed that Rick was paying my way)

Show went well last night, and I was pretty damn awesome. Feel really good about that.

Gave blood this morning, so the good feeling lasted; and I'm not talking about some kind of bullshit feeling good for helping people feeling, I'm talkign about that minor buzz you get from teh blood-loss. Oh, yeah!

I gave red cells, so i can't donate again until April.
